Abstract

Junk food is food that sold in street, market, railway station, etc. Microbial contamination described as one of contaminations caused by microorganisms. The purpose of this study is to obtain qualitative and quantitative data of junk food that had been studied. Microbiological assay was conducted on five kinds of food sold in Sekolah Dasar Negeri Bencongan 1, 2, 6, and 7, Karawaci, which is batagor, siomay, burger, pisang goreng and tempura. Total aerobic bacteria (APC), yeast and mold (YM), coliform bacteria, and Staphylococcus aureus (SA) quantitatively analized, while qualitative test was conducted for Salmonella sp. The results showed that siomay had the highest contamination with APC (7,9 x 10 5 cfu/g), coliform (1,5 x 10 5 cfu/g), SA (3,7 x 10 5 cfu/g) and YM 2 (5,4 x 10 cfu/g). The existence of Salmonella sp was not found in the study conducted to five kinds of junk food. Test on metal contamination was also conducted in this study, but there was no harmful metal that contaminated the junk food.
