Abstract

The role of women in economic activities as entrepreneur has been proven to help the family economy and the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises. The aim of this research is to analyze the motivational factors of women entrepreneurs in running their business. This research will also analyze the influence of motivation to business growth. This research uses motivational factors based on previous research conducted by Zhu and Chu (2010) entitled “Motivations, Success Factors and Problems Encountered by Chinese Women Entrepreneurs: A Factor Analysis” and Merwe (2010) entitled “Investigation of Women Entrepreneurs in Lesotho”. Questionnaire is being distributed to collect the data. To analyze the data, validity test, reliability test, descriptive statistics, normality test, linearity test and t-test are being used. The sample used is women entrepreneurs in Fashion and Apparel MSMEs in Medan. The validity and reliability tests have been done and proven that the questionnaires are valid and reliable, the mean of each elements and indicators have been showed and the most important motivation is income job. The result of normality and linearity test shown that the variables are normally distributed and the relationship between both variables are linear while the results of t-test show that there is strong influence of motivational factors to business growth of women entrepreneurs in Fashion and Apparel MSMEs in Medan. However, motivation is not the only factor that influences the growth of women entrepreneurs in Fashion and Apparel industries in Medan, there are other factors that have influenced on the business growth which are not included in this research, one of which is managerial skill
