Latar Belakang: Penggunaan gadget terutama smartphone telah menjadi kebutuhan dasar bagi manusia. Pengguna smartphone umumnya adalah masyarakat dengan usia muda. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan pada tahun 2019 oleh Vasant Ramraoji Lunge, pengguna gadget mayoritas adalah perempuan dengan presentase 71% dan sebanyak 2/5 dari mahasiswa menggunakan gadget selama 1-3 jam setiap harinya. Prevalensi populasi yang mengalami mata kering di Asia Tenggara memiliki variasi antara 20% - 52,4%. Pengguna smartphone dapat mengalami computer vision syndrome yang dapat menyebabkan mata kering karena pengguna tidak berkedip saat menatap layar dalam waktu yang lama. Salah satu pemeriksaan fisik yang dapat dilakukan untuk mendiagnosis kejadian sindroma mata kering adalah menggunakan schirmer test. Tujuan Penelitian: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh kecanduan penggunaan smartphone terhadap hasil schirmer test pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. Metode Penelitian: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi observasional dengan desain potong lintang pada 119 responden mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan yang menggunakan smartphone sehari-hari dan memenuhi kriteria inklusi serta kriteria eksklusi. Hasil Analisis Data: Data didapatkan dari 130 responden menggunakan kuesioner SAS-SV serta schirmer test. Data diolah menggunakan uji chi square. Penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya hasil yang signifikan antara kecanduan smartphone terhadap hasil schirmer test pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan dengan p value 0.001. Nilai odds ratio yang didapatkan sebesar 3.989 dan confidence interval 95% sebesar 1.744-9.124. Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan positif yang signifikan antara kecanduan penggunaan smartphone terhadap hasil schirmer test pada mahasiswa Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Pelita Harapan. / Background: The usage of gadget, mainly smartphone has become the basic human needs. Most common smartphone users in the society is the people with young age. Based on the previous research that was done in 2019 by Vasant Ramraoji Lunge, the majority of gadget users are female (71%) and 2/5 of all the university students use their gadgets for 1-3 hours per day. In Southeast Asia, the prevalence of the people that are suffering from dry eye disease varies between 20% - 52.4%. Smartphone user can develop computer vision syndrome which can cause dry eye disease due to reduced blinking rate when looking at the screen for a long time. One of the physical examination that can be done to diagnose dry eye disease is schirmer test. Objective: The aim of this research is to know if there is any effect from smartphone addiction to the result of the schirmer test that will be examined on Faculty of Medicine Universitas Pelita Harapan students. Method: This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional design of 119 Universitas Pelita Harapan medical students that are using smartphone in their daily life and fulfill the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result: Data obtained from 130 students using SAS-SV questionnaire and schirmer test. The data was analyzed using chi square method. This research shows that there is significant correlation between the addiction of smartphone and schirmer test result on medical students of Universitas Pelita Harapan with p value 0.001. Odds ratio value is 3.989 and confidence interval 95% is 1.744-9.124. Conclusion: There is significant positive correlation between addiction of smartphone and schirmer test result on medical students of Universitas Pelita Harapan.
