Abstract
Entrepreneurship is important for the economic growth of a country, since it provides lots of advantages. As a result, it is also important to grow the interest in entrepreneurship, especially for young generation. Therefore, this research studies the factors that influence the interest in entrepreneurship. The factor that is studied in the research is the need for achievement which is from David McClelland’s the three needs theory. This research is aimed to examine the relationship between the need for achievement and the intention of being an entrepreneur. The writer used the need for achievement as an independent variable for the research, while the dependent variable is entrepreneurial intention. The sample of this research are UPH Medan students who are majoring in management from batch 2014 – 2017. From the statistic testing, the collected data is proved to be valid, reliable and normally distributed. From the result of the hypothesis testing, the alternate hypothesis is accepted which shows that the need for achievement affect the student’s desire of becoming an entrepreneur.
