Film Tanda Tanya merupakan sebuah film karya sutradara Indonesia, Hanung Bramantyo. Film ini mengangkat mengenai isu sosial yang ada di masyarakat Indonesia dalam kehidupan antar umat beragama. Film ini menceritakan tentang tiga keluarga yang berbeda agama dan hidup berdampingan dalam toleransi. Selama penayangannya di bioskop Indonesia, Film Tanda Tanya banyak menuai pro dan kontra. Penelitian ini ingin melihat bagaimana persepsi mahasiswa mengenai isi dari Film Tanda Tanya. Mahasiswa di Indonesia dikenal sebagai agent of change dan terbukti dari sejarah bahwa pergerakan mahasiswa mampu merubah sejarah bangsa, tentunya juga memiliki pandangan terhadap Film Tanda Tanya. Pengertian persepsi dan prosesnya didasarkan pada konsep yang dikemukakan oleh Julia T. Wood, yaitu melalui proses seleksi, organisasi, dan interpretasi. Data penelitian dikaji berdasarkan kajian Cultural Studies yaitu konsep hegemony dan counter-hegemony, kontrol kesadaran, konstruksi realita, dan dikelompokkan berdasarkan audience decoding, yaitu dominant-hegemony position, negotiated position, dan oppositional position. Melalui paradigma penelitian kualitatif, dengan metode pengumpulan data focus group discussion dan in-depth interview. Focus group discussion dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa yang aktif dalam organisasi kerohanian di Universitas Pelita Harapan. In-depth interview dilakukan kepada mahasiswa dan Hanung Bramantyo. Hasil penelitian yang didapatkan adalah persepsi mahasiswa yang menyebutkan bahwa Film Tanda menggambarkan realita yang terjadi di masyarakat. Film Tanda Tanya sebagai media massa dapat merubah persepsi yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa mengenai kehidupan toleransi dalam masyatakat yang beragama suku, ras, dan agama. / The Movie “Tanda Tanya (Question Mark / „?‟)” is a movie by Indonesian director, Hanung Bramantyo. This movie sets forward a social issue in Indonesia, in respect to inter-religion life. This movie tells us about three families with different religion, living altogether on tolerance and harmony. During its screenings in Indonesian theatres, the movie “Tanda Tanya” gained a lot of responses, pros and cons. This study is intended to overview how is the students‟ perception about the content of the movie “Tanda Tanya”. Students in Indonesia are also known as agent of change, proven by the history, where students‟ movement can change history of a nation. Of course, they also have their view upon the movie “Tanda Tanya”. The meaning or definition of perception and its process is based on the concept brought forward by Julia T. Wood, which are the selection, organization, and interpretation processes. The study data is processes by the Cultural Studies, which are the hegemony and counter-hegemony concepts, consciousness control, reality construction, and grouped by audience decoding, which are dominant hegemony position, negotiated position, and oppositional position. By the means of qualitative research methods, with data gaining methods of focus group discussion and in-depth interview. Focus group discussion was done to students who are active in religious organization in Universitas Pelita Harapan. In-depth interview was done to the students and Hanung Bramantyo. The result of the study is the perception of the students, saying that the movie “Tanda Tanya” can picture the reality on the modern community. The movie “Tanda Tanya” as a mass media can change the perception of the students about life tolerance in a community with a diversity in race, tribe, and religion.
