Latar Belakang : Proses degeneratif menyebabkan banyak perubahan fisiologi pada lanjut usia. Salah satu perubahan tersebut yaitu adanya penurunan fungsi kognitif. Penurunan tersebut dapat menyebabkan turunnya kualitas hidup seseorang. Indeks Massa Tubuh diduga turut berperan dalam penurunan fungsi kognitif. Adipositas dan lemak yang meningkat dapat menyebabkan atrofi pada otak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan hubungan antara Indeks Massa Tubuh terhadap penurunan fungsi kognitif pada lansia. Metode Penelitian : Penelitian ini menggunakan metode potong lintang. Sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil dari lanjut usia yang berada di wilayah Tangerang. Jumlah sampel yang diperlukan sebanyak 88 orang. Pemilihan subjek dilakukan melalui non probabilitas dengan cara purposive sample. Responden melakukan pengisian kuesioner dengan bantuan dari peneliti melalui wawancara. Pengumpulan data diambil dalam periode Februari 2020 - April 2020. Hasil penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan SPSS versi 25.0 dengan uji statistik Chi Square. Hasil Penelitian : Terdapat 88 responden yang menunjukkan hasil, bahwa terdapat 26 sampel (41,9%) dengan IMT overweight yang mengalami penurunan fungsi kognitif sedangkan 36 sampel (58,1%) dengan IMT overweight yang memiliki fungsi kognitif yang normal. Selain itu, terdapat 10 sampel (38,5%) dengan IMT normal yang mengalami penurunan fungsi kognitif sedangkan 16 sampel (61,5%) dengan IMT normal dan memiliki memiliki fungsi kognitif yang normal. Tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dengan fungsi kognitif yang ditandai dengan nilai P-value sebesar 0,948 (>0,05). Kesimpulan : Tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dengan fungsi kognitif pada lansia. One of these changes is a decline in cognitive function. This reduction can cause a decrease in the quality of life of a person. Body Mass Index is thought to have a role to reduce cognitive function. Increased adiposity and fat can cause atrophy in the brain. This study aims to find the relationship between body mass index and decrease in cognitive function within the elderly. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. The sample in this study were taken from the elderly who resides in Tangerang. The number of samples needed is 88 people. Subject selection is done through non probabilitas of purposive sample. Respondents fell in the questionnaire with the help of interview from the researcher. Data collection was taken in the period of February 2020 - April 2020. The results of this study were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0 with Chi Square statistical tests. Results: There were 88 respondents who showed results, among those, there were 26 samples (41.9%) who are within the overweight BMI category whom had decreased cognitive function. While 36 samples (58.1%) with overweight BMI had normal cognitive function. In addition, there were 10 samples (38.5%) with normal BMI who had decreased cognitive function while 16 samples (61.5%) with normal BMI had normal cognitive function. There is no significant relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and cognitive function which is indicated by a P-value of 0.948 (> 0.05). Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and cognitive function in the elderly. Keywords: Body Mass Index, Cognitive function, Elderly.
