Abstract
English teachers as the head in the classroom are leaders who lead the students to experience transformation in their knowledge, behavior, and heart. They do not only dictate rules, regulations, and procedures, but they also must possess certain qualities that are necessary to achieve the learning. Teachers as shepherds become pathfinder, mentors, coaches, and counselors who guide the students to develop their talents and gifts to serve God and others. Jesus declares Himself as Good Shepherd by dedicating the perfect care, willing sacrifice, close relationship, and protection of His followers. Therefore, as shepherds, teachers provide the model of caring that is prioritized to the wellbeing of students by knowing them physically, emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. This paper aims to investigate the ways and challenges of implementing shepherd leadership in English classrooms, particularly in the online learning situation context. The method used is qualitative descriptive and the data taken from the researcher’s practicum portfolio. The result shows that the four components of shepherd leadership can be implemented and some challenges occurred in English online classrooms. It is recommended for English teachers at the secondary level apply the four components: to know, feed, lead and protect the students. Keywords: English teachers, Jesus as Good Shepherd, Shepherd leadership.
