Abstract

Students were created not only as creatures but also as person, who has a kind of independence, yet it is not an absolute but an interdependence. They also have their own needs, that are important to be known before the lesson begin. The purpose of this study is to know the application of needs analysis for English teachers, in order to help them arrange the proper and appropriate learning materials and learning goals for the students. During 2 weeks of observations, the researcher found that there was no needs analysis conducted by the English teacher before and it became the reason why the students still felt unconfidence or not comfortable in using English during the learning process. The purpose of the needs analysis is to help teachers to set the proper and appropriate learning material and learning goals. There are several types and methods of doing the needs analysis that teachers can use. Therefore, the researcher suggests the school and the teacher have at least one needs analysis training program so that all the teachers, especially English teachers can apply the needs analysis itself.
