Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of literature circles approaches in improving the students’ motivation in reading. Literature circles is a small discussion groups consist of students that have chosen to read the same book; each member of the group has specific responsibilities during the discussion session. This approach deal with one problem that the researcher found during the second online practicum. The problems are lack of motivation in reading from the students during asynchronous and synchronous session. The researcher used worksheets and online discussion to improve the student’ motivation in reading. Those instruments are part of extrinsic motivation in improving motivation in reading. Besides, the role of teacher as a priest is very needed in choosing the appropriate method to improve the students’ motivation in reading. The greater responsible of the priest to teach and draw the student near to God. The result from the research show that their literature circle approach works in improving students’ character and motivation in reading. For the recommendation the next researcher should find the advantages and disadvantages of using literature circles in improving students’ motivation in reading and collect in different grade when implementing literature circles approaches in improving the student’ motivation in reading.
