Abstract

Due to worldwide pandemic, activities are held online, including the formal education process. However, with many limitations, the online learning process cannot be done optimally. Therefore, many roles of a teacher are required to optimize the online learning process, including the role as facilitator. This paper aims to know how teacher's role as facilitator optimizes the online learning process and to describe the challenges in practicing the role. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive with the data taken from literatures, previous studies, and researcher's experience during 2nd practicum. Moreover, the teachers’ role as facilitator must facilitate the students to learn and build their knowledge in the process of becoming the salt and light in society as the agents of Shallom. This paper found out that the teachers' role as the facilitator is able to optimize the online learning process. The characteristics of teacher as facilitator are suitable in motivating the students and maintaining the limitation of online learning with the use of teaching platforms, although some challenges may occur in the practice. Furthermore, the next researchers may do a deeper research with different problem variables, solution, or contexts to enrich the results of the study for the readers.
