Abstract
Critical thinking is one of 21 important skills to be mastered in the 21st century. Current research suggested that there is a clear and interrelated framework in the field of critical thinking. Therefore, this paper is going to see practical problems associated with critical thinking in English language teaching particularly in the home-based learning context, and the strategies offered to introduce critical thinking in teaching English during online learning. This paper is also going to explain to what extent critical thinking in English language teaching can be applied in online settings. This paper utilized a qualitative descriptive (QD) research method and conducted fully online to students from grades 7 and 8 in a Christian school in North Sumatra from July to August 2020. The paper re-discovered some teaching strategies that are suitable to teach critical thinking during home-based learning. This paper also results in an indication of critical thinking that may lead the students to be called the salt and the light of the world referring to Matthew 5:13-20.
