Abstract

Tanzania is one of the countries with the highest number of child laborers in the world. The quality of life of every child who works as child labor is automatically negatively affected. Thus, international organizations intervened in dealing with and trying to solve the problem of child labor that occurred in Tanzania. An international organization that has proven to be involved in overcoming this problem is ILO. ILO wants to ensure that all of its efforts are based on inviting governments, employers and workers to join on the making of labor regulations, oversee their implementation, raise awareness, and formulate policies and also plan programs to tackle the prevalence of child labor by establishing an international cooperation . Using qualitative methods, theories and concepts relevant to international relations, this study aims to analyze the background, implementation, and results that have been achieved through the application of ILO programs. One of the most dangerous and most practiced areas of child labor in Tanzania is agriculture, particularly in the tobacco, coffee and tea sectors. ILO and the government of Tanzania are working together to eliminate child labor with programs and projects created according to a neoliberalist perspective. The conclusion of this study is that, because at the beginning of the cooperation programs that were run did not produce enough results, thus the ILO finally created many new programs which are expected to have a more positive impact than before.
