Abstract
But it seems that this region has become a fighting arena for big countries to realize their national interests as well as Japan. Japan cooperates with ASEAN through regional economic cooperation namely AJCEP. AJCEP was used by Japan as an instrument to realize its national interests. To obtain information about Japan's national interest in AJCEP as well as the strategies that Japan uses in realizing its national interests, this research was conducted using library and internet research instruments. In addition, this research was built on the theory of neorealism, and supported by the concept of regionalism, national interest, the balance of power, regional cooperation, geostrategic, and economic diplomacy. After conducting the research, it was found that AJCEP was formed because it was motivated by the national interest of Japan. Japan wants to expand its influence, as well as become an Asian leader and balance China. The long-held idea of leadership in Japan, as well as the rivalry between Japan and China, is considered a driving factor in the emergence of Japan's national interests. In addition, Japan's desire to realize its national interests can be seen from the strategies implemented in AJCEP as well as liberalization of investment and enforcement of intellectual property rights and facilitating the cooperation of AJCEP.
