Abstract

Racism is a sensitive issue in the United States. Since a long time ago, this issue has existed until it becomes a crucial issue today. Through written data related to various actions by minority groups, it can be seen how the situation in the United States still has high racism. Some of it is evidence that blacks are victims of racism from police brutality in America. Furthermore, media texts in the form of films play a significant role in influencing the issue of racism. This film is a space where the contestation is held between the two groups.
This research aims to uncover the relationship between white groups and black groups through the film The Hate U Give concerning the depiction behind the discourse of racism that appears in the film. This research is included in the Critical Discourse analysis study by Norman Fairclough using a critical approach. The results of this study indicate that the relationships that occur between black and white groups depicted in this film do indeed have domination, marginalization, dehumanization or are historically related to segregation. When this film is said to convey the message of anti-racism from the point of view of a black person, there are many old perspectives, stereotypes, or old representations that influence the film in describing its message in society.
