Abstract

Band indie Rocket Rockers adalah band beraliran Punk yang sudah terbentuk sejak tahun 1999, pada tahunnya mereka hanya bertahan dengan adanya media seperti majalah indie, radio ataupun word-of-mouth dari pendengar mereka yang awalnya hanya berada di kota Bandung. Tapi seiring berjalannya waktu dan perkembangan teknologi muncul media baru di dalam dunia internet yang bernama Social Media. Dengan adanya media inilah band indie terutama Rocket Rockers dapat melanjutkan perjuangan musik mereka dan dengan mudah menjalin relasi dengan fans mereka dimanapun dengan balasan yang tanggap dan mudah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan tehknik pengumpulan data yaitu wawancara. Data primer pada penelitian ini yaitu social media itu sendiri, sedangkan data sekunder dilakukan dengan wawancara. Pengaruh social media terhadap kesuksesan band indie Rocket Rockers menjalin relasi dengan fans mereka. Wawancara dilakukan pada personel band Rocket Rockers dan juga seorang senior di scene musik indie. Pembahasan pada penelitian ini menggunakan konsep-konsep Public Relations dalam Social Media dari Deirdre Breakenridge. Dari hasil penelitian, didapatkan bahwa Rocket Rockers sebagai band indie tidak mampu mempertahankan eksistensi dalam dunia musik indie serta tidak mungkin dapat melakukan promosi musik ataupun acara serta komunikasi yang baik kepada fans mereka apabila tidak adanya Social Media / A Punk indie band from Bandung, Rocket Rockers, was formed in the year 1999. At that time they survived for being interviewed in the indie magazines, radio stations, or even word-of-mouth from the people who loved their music especially at their hometown, Bandung. But, today media technology has developed and there are social media in the internet. Nowadays, indie band such as Rocket Rockers survived for being active in the social media, building and maintaining good relationships with their fans and communicate easily through social media. This study used a qualitative approach with study case method and interview as a data collecting method. The primary data in this research is the social media itself, while the secondary data was obtained by the interview. Social media influence regarding to the Rocket Rockers success in building and maintaing good relationships with their fans. The interviews were conducted with the personel of Rocket Rockers and with the indie music scene senior, while the discussion in this study used Public Relations concepts in the social media activity by Deirdre Breakenridge. From the research, Author found that Rocket Rockers as a indie band could not survive the scene in maintaining their existence by promoting their gigs, music, and also maintaining good relationships with their fans through social media.
