Abstract

Perlakuan diskriminasi telah diterima oleh etnis Tionghoa di Indonesia sejak jaman Belanda. Hal ini dikarenakan adanya pembagian golongan-golongan kelas yang membedakan antara etnis Tionghoa dan pribumi. Pada Mei 1998 perlakuan diskriminasi terjadi pada etnis Tionghoa. Ketika memasuki era Reformasi aura kebebasan dicium oleh etnis Tionghoa. Perkembangan media khususnya film, mulai mengangkat isu-isu tentang etnis Tionghoa. Film The Photograph merupakan film yang mengangkat etnis Tionghoa dengan tema kebudayaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Data primer pada penelitian ini yaitu film itu sendiri, sedangkan data sekunder dilakukan dengan wawancara. Pemilihan scene berdasaran pada konsep tujuh unsur budaya. Wawancara dilakukan pada sutradara film The Photograph dan pengelola kelenteng. Pembahasan pada penelitian ini menggunakan teori representasi dan semiotik dari Roland Barthes. Dari hasil penelitian, didapatkan bahwa The Photograph sangat menekankan akan sistem religi pada kehidupan etnis Tionghoa. Simbol yang dominan adalah penggunaan hio dan etnis Tionghoa sangat memuja leluhurnya. / Discrimination towards the Chinese in Indonesia have been occured since the Dutch. Discrimination against Chinese in Indonesia occurred in May 1998. After then, Indonesia is entering the Reformation era and since then, the Chinese can do more activities than they used to do in New Order era. For example, the development of the film media began to raise issues about the Chinese. The Photograph is one of the movies that carry the theme of the Chinese culture. This study used a qualitative approach with content analysis method. The primary data in this research is the film itself, while the secondary data was obtained by the interview. The selection of the scenes based on the concept of the seven elements of culture. The interviews were conducted with the director of the film and with the keeper of a Chinese monastery, while the discussion in this study used Representation Theory and Semiotics of Barthes Roland. From the research, Researcher found that The Photograph will emphasize the religious and believe system which adopted by the Chinese. The usage of incenses is one of the dominant symbol in the film, showing that the Chinese have great respects for their ancestors.
