Abstract

Berdasarkan pengamatan yang peneliti lakukan dalam pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia kelas I SD sekolah XYZ Medan, peneliti mendapatkan bahwa beberapa siswa kesulitan dalam memahami isi bacaan. Sebagian besar siswa dapat membaca dengan baik, namun ketika peneliti memberikan sebuah bacaan singkat terdapat banyak siswa yang kesulitan memahami rangkaian bacaan tersebut. Akibatnya, siswa tidak dapat mencapai tujuan pembelajaran sebagaimana mestinya. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, peneliti kemudian melakukan penelitian dengan menerapkan metode mind map dalam pembelajaran. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami isi bacaan siswa melalui penerapan metode mind map. Penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas Model Spiral dari Kemmis & McTaggart yang berlangsung selama 2 siklus. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 08 Oktober 2015 sampai dengan 05 November 2015. Adapun subjek penelitian ini berjumlah 27 siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan menerapkan pengajaran dengan metode mind map untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami isi bacaan siswa dalam mata pelajaran mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dari hasil tes, lembar wawancara, lembar umpan balik mentor, RPP, dan, refleksi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tindakan kelas, dapat dibuktikan bahwa metode mind map dapat meningkatkan setiap indikator kemampuan memahami isi bacaan siswa sesuai langkah-langkah yang diterapkan. Dalam penelitian ini, mind map merupakan solusi yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami isi bacaan siswa kelas 1 SD dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di sekolah XYZ Medan./Based on the observation in Elementary School XYZ Medan, specifically in the “Bahasa” subject for first grade, writer found that some students have difficulties in understanding the content of reading passage. Almost of them are already have a good ability to read the passage, but when it comes to the idea of how to understand the content of the passage, they find themselves hard to get to it. As a result, the objectives of the reading study are not achieved. Looking forward to this problem, writer conduct a research on how to apply mind map method in learning process. The purpose of this study is to improve students' reading comprehension by using mind map method. This research is a classroom action research model Spiral by Kemmis & McTaggart that will run into 2 periods. Research was held on October 8, 2015 until November, 5 2015. The subject of this research consisted of 27 first grade students. Focus of this research is on how to apply the mind map methods to improve reading comprehension of students in “Bahasa” subjects. The data collection was obtained from results of tests, interviews, mentor feedback sheets, RPP, and, reflection. Based on the results of action research, it is proven that mind map method is able to improve the student’s understanding, based on the measures applied. In conclusion, mind map is an effective method and also a possible solution to improve the reading comprehension of students in 1st grade in subjects Indonesian in schools ABC Medan.
