Abstract

Minat adalah suatu kecenderungan, kegairahan, ketertarikan yang muncul dalam diri siswa terhadap hal/objek tanpa ada unsur paksaan dan menurut siswa/i menguntungkan dan memberikan kesenangan, kegembiraan dan kesukaan terhadap hal/objek tersebut. Minat siswa merupakan salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi belajar siswa. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti mendapati kurangnya minat siswa/i kelas 3 dan 4 SD ABC Mangga Besar terhadap Bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengatasinya, peneliti menerapkan suatu kegiatan belajar mengajar Bahasa Inggris di luar jam pelajaran biasa yaitu penerapan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler English Club untuk meningkatkan minat siswa/i terhadap Bahasa Inggris. Metode penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah metode Penelitian Tindakan model Kemmis dan Taggart yang berlangsung selama dua siklus. Penelitian dilaksanakan di SD ABC Mangga Besar tanggal 22 Oktober 2015 hingga 20 November 2015 yang melibatkan sebanyak 22 siswa/i. Peneliti menggunakan instrumen untuk mendapatkan informasi, yakni lembar observasi checklist guru mentor, teman sejawat serta lembar angket untuk siswa/i kelas 3 dan 4 SD ABC Mangga Besar. Berdasarkan penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa penerapan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler English Club dengan beberapa variasi kegiatan memiliki dampak positif dalam meningkatkan minat siswa/i terhadap Bahasa Inggris terlihat dari peningkatan persentase setiap indikator pada siklus dua berdasarkan angket siswa yakni ketertarikan meningkat menjadi 88%, keterlibatan menjadi 84%, kemauan menjadi 66%, dan perhatian menjadi 86%. Maka, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan kegiatan ekstrakurikuler English Club merupakan kegiatan yang tepat diterapkan untuk meningkatkan minat siswa/i terhadap Bahasa Inggris./Interest is a tendency, enthusiasm, an interest that appears in the students towards things/object without any element of force and according to the students has the advantage and giving fun, excitement and joy of the things/object. Students’ interest is one of the factors that influence students learning. In this research, the researcher found that the students grade 3 and 4 SD ABC Mangga Besar lack of interest toward English. To overcome the problem, the researcher implemented English teaching and learning activities to increase the interest of students grade 3 and 4 SD ABC Mangga Besar toward English. Research method that the researcher used is research method designed by Kemmis and Taggart which lasted for two cycles. This research was in SD ABC Mangga Besar since October 22, 2015 until November 20, 2015 that involve 22 students. The researcher used three instruments to get the information, observation checklist done by teacher mentor as well as colleague, and also questionnaire sheet done by the students grade 3 and 4 SD ABC Mangga Besar. Based on this research was discovered that the implementation of extracurricular English Club with some variation of activities has the positive impact in increasing students’ interest toward English seen from the percentage of each indicator in cycle two based on students’ questionnaire that pencentage of students’interest become 88%, students’ involvement become 84%, students’ willingness become 66%, and students’ attention become 86%. So, it can be concluded that the implementation of extracurricular English Club activity is an activity that can be implemented to increase the students’ interest toward English.
