Abstract

Membaca merupakan aspek penting dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik kelas I sekolah Kristen kupang, NTT mengalami kesulitan dalam membaca. Berdasarkan permasalahan ini, peneliti merencanakan menggunakan suatu media dalam pembelajaran, yaitu media flashcard. Penggunaan media flashcard untuk melihat peningkatan pada kemampuan membaca permulaan yang dimiliki oleh peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini dilakukan sejak 3 Agustus 2015 hingga 1 Oktober 2015. Penelitian ini melibatkan 26 peserta didik, dilaksanakan sebanyak tiga siklus. Adapun instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu lembar observasi check-list, rubrik observasi kemampuan membaca permulaan dan penggunaan media flashcard, kuesioner penilaian penggunaan media flashcard, dan jurnal refleksi peneliti. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media flashcard dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca peserta didik. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan keberhasilan indikator yang diteliti disetiap siklus. Adapun kriteria penggunaan media flashcard yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan peserta didik, yaitu pada flashcard berisi gambar dan teks yang sangat jelas, serta memiliki ukuran yang tepat./Reading is an important aspect in human learning process. Observation result shows that students grade 1 in Kupang Christian school, NTT has struggles in reading. Based on this problem the researcher chooses to use one learning media, which was flashcard. The use of flashcard was to see an increase of students reading skill. Method that used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research was done since August 3rd, 2015 to October 1st , 2015. This research involved 26 students, done with three cycles. These were a few instruments that the researcher used in this research; Check-list observation sheet, observation rubric of student reading skill and the use of the flashcard, the questioner assessment of the use of flashcard, and researcher reflections journal. The research shows that the use of flashcard can increase students reading skill. It can be seen through successful indicators increase in each cycle. Speaking about the criteria of increasing students’ reading skill using flashcard was by using flashcard with clear pictures and texts, also with an accurate size.
