Abstract
In facing an era with significant developments of technology and information, human beings need to be educated by acquiring some certain skills in order to survive. One of the skills that are required is the skill of thinking, especially critical thinking skill. Thus, acquiring this skill is one of the ways to maximize the God given potential for humans to live out the Cultural Mandate to rule over the earth. However, during the observation, the researcher found out that Grade I students at ABC School did not acquire this ability to think critically. In response to this problem, the researcher decided to conduct a research to find out the effects of 5E instructional model towards students’ critical thinking skill in Biblical Studies lesson. Kemmis and McTaggart’s Classroom Action Research was chosen by the researcher with the steps of planning, action, observation, and reflection. There were two cycles with three instruments which were students’ test, students’ questionnaire, and mentor’s observation checklist form. Based on this Classroom Action Research, 5E instructional model could help the students to engage learning while also training their thinking skill. Therefore, the 5E instructional model could be used to develop students’ critical thinking skill./Dalam menghadapi suatu era dengan perkembangan teknologi dan informasi yang pesat, manusia perlu memiliki pengetahuan dan mengampu berbagai keterampilan untuk dapat bertahan hidup. Salah satu keterampilan yang perlu dimiliki adalah keterampilan berpikir, khususnya keterampilan berpikir kritis. Memiliki keterampilan ini merupakan salah satu cara dalam memaksimalkan potensi yang sudah Tuhan berikan kepada manusia untuk dapat menjalankan Mandat Budaya untuk berkuasa atas bumi. Namun, selama pengamatan dilakukan, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa-siswi kelas 1 sekolah ABC tidak memiliki keterampilan berpikir kritis tersebut. Dalam menanggapi masalah ini, peneliti melakukan penelitian untuk menyelidiki efek penerapan model pengajaran 5E untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa pada pelajaran studi Alkitab. Model penelitian tindakan kelas oleh Kemmis dan McTaggart yang dipilih peneliti mencakup tahap perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Terdapat dua siklus dengan tiga instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes siswa, kuesioner siswa, dan observasi ceklis oleh mentor. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tindakan kelas ini, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa model pengajaran 5E dapat membantu siswa untuk terlibat dalam pembelajaran juga melatih keterampilan berpikir kritis mereka. Dapat disimpulkan, model pengajaran 5E dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa.
