Abstract

Based on the observation in Grade X Social of SMA ABC, it was found that the students had low grades in their Mathematics tests. One of the reasons was that they could not follow the teacher’s explanation since most of them were slow to understand the given material. The teacher also could not assist the students one by one during the learning process. Thus, the researcher decided to use Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method in order to tackle this problem. The aim of this research was to see that the students’ grades (cognitive achievement), increased as they used the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method to help them in learning process.The method of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted on October 14 – October 29, 2014 during the learning of Quadratic Equations, Inequalities, and Modulus Function topic in Mathematics class. This CAR involved 16 students in grade X Social of SMA ABC and consisted of three cycles. The descriptive statistics and qualitative descriptive analysis were the techniques used to analyze the data. The instruments that were used in this research were Mentor’s Observation Sheet, Reflection Journal, Students’ Self-Evaluation and Questionnaire, and Quiz. The analysis of the data showed that the implementation of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) method helped students to learn the Math topics taught and get better cognitive achievement. / Menurut observasi pada kelas X di SMA ABC, ditemukan bahwa para siswa itu memiliki nilai-nilai tes yang rendah. Salah satu hal yang menjadi alasan adalah bahwa mereka tidak dapat mengikuti penjelasan guru dengan baik dikarenakan lambatnya penerimaan materi oleh pemikiran sebagian besar dari mereka. Terlebih lagi, guru tidak dapat membimbing siswa satu per satu selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memutuskan untuk menggunakan metode Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) dalam menghadapi masalah ini. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat bahwa nilai-nilai tes (pencapaian hasil belajar kognisi siswa) meningkat seiring dengan dijalankannya metode Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) dalam menolong proses pembelajaran mereka.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan pada 14 Oktober sampai dengan 29 Oktober 2014 dalam pembelajaran topik Persamaan Kuadrat, Pertidaksamaan, dan Fungsi Modulus. Penelitian ini melibatkan 16 siswa dengan terdiri dari 3 siklus. Teknik yang digunakan dalam menganalisa hasil data adalah analisa deskripsi kualitatif dan statistika sederhana. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Lembar observasi mentor, jurnal refleksi, evaluasi diri dan kuisioner siswa, serta quiz siswa. Analisa data menunjukan bahwa penerapan metode Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) dapat menolong siswa untuk belajar topik Matematika yang diajarkan dan mendapatkan pencapaian hasil belajar kognisi yang lebih baik.
