Abstract

Comic is one of the mass communication tools that is used to send messages to the masses. It can represent the phenomena that are happening in the society. One of the phenomena that is represented by the comic is about the condition of education in Indonesia’s high school. Where education according to Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 pasal 1 ayat 3 supposed to develop students in some aspects such as character, potential, creativity, independence, and responsibility, however this law seems not really applied by the society. There is an article stating that the educational environment in Indonesia only prioritizes the students’ academic achievement. Since comics as mass communication tools can be used to represent the phenomena that are happening in society, there are some concepts that can be used to see how the condition of education in Indonesia’s high school is represented by comics. The object of this research is the Webtoon “Trickster”, where Webtoon is one of the webcomic platforms. This research uses the qualitative approach. The data collection of this research is carried out through the semiotics by Roland Barthes as sources of primary data. Those data are collected from analyzing the panels of the Webtoon “Trickster”. From the research, it can be concluded that the Webtoon “Trickster” represented the gap between the concept of education with what is portrayed in the comics./ Komik merupakan salah satu alat komunikasi massa yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan pesan kepada massa. Komik dapat merepresentasikan fenomena yang terjadi di dalam masyarakat. Salah satu fenomena yang direpresentasikan oleh komik adalah fenomena mengenai kondisi pendidikan dalam SMA di Indonesia. Dimana pendidikan menurut Undang-Undang Republik Indonesia Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 pasal 1 ayat 3, seharusnya mengembangkan siswa dalam aspek karakter, potensi, kreatifitas, kemandirian dan tanggung jawab, namun hukum tersebut terlihat tidak diterapkan dalam masyakrakat. Terdapat sebuah artikel yang menunjukkan bahwa lingkungan pendidikan di Indonesia hanya mementingkan prestasi akademik siswa. Dengan komik yang merupakan alat komunikasi massa yang dapat digunakan untuk merepresentasikan fenomena yang terjadi pada masyarakat, terdapat beberapa konsep yang dapat digunakan untuk melihat kondisi pendidikan di SMA Indonesia melalui komik. Objek pada penilitian adalah Webtoon “Trickster”, dimana Webtoon merupakan salah satu platform webcomic. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data pada penelitian diambil melalui teori semiotika oleh Roland Barthes sebagai sumber dari data primer. Data-data tersebut dikumpulkan dari analisis panel dari Webtoon “Trickster”. Dari penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Webtoon “Trickster” merepresentasikan kesenjangan antara konsep pendidikan dengan yang digambarkan melalui komik ini.
