The entertaining media holds great power of influence towards its audience’s perception of how the world operates; among many other, ideas about gender. For centuries, society has believed that “Men are masculine and women are feminine”, otherwise one is not man enough neither are they woman enough should they not express their gender that aligns with stereotypes held by society. In spite of the rigid gender norms, a number of films of the 20th century show subtle shifts in the way it represents gender. The movie “Enola Holmes” wraps itself around a strong and young heroine which interests the researcher to just how the movie illustrates gender expression through its characters. Using a qualitative approach, the Researcher will benefit from Barthes’ semiotic analysis to further dissect how movie “Enola Holmes” represents gender expression. The data collected from reviewing particular scenes from the movie will be analyzed using concepts, articles, journals, as well as other researches in relation to gender studies. Through a semiotic analysis done on each selected scenes, this research finds that the characters in the movie “Enola Holmes” express femininity, masculinity, as well as androgyny despite their gender/ Media hiburan tentunya berpengaruh terhadap persepsi audiensnya mengenai banyak hal, di antara lain tentang gender. Pada umumnya terdapat kepercayaan bahwa “laki-laki adalah maskulin dan perempuan adalah feminin”, sehingga ketika serorang individu laki-laki terlihat kurang maskulin ataupun seorang perempuan terlihat kurang feminin dengan tidak mengekspresikan gender mereka sesuai dengan stereotip yang ada, mereka dianggap tidak wajar. Terlepas dari norma gender yang kaku, sejumlah film abad ke-20 menunjukkan perubahan susbtil dalam caranya merepresentasikan gender. Film “Enola Holmes” mengemas sosok pahlawan wanita muda yang membuat Peneliti tertarik untuk melihat bagaimana film tersebut menggambarkan ekspresi gender melalui karakternya. Peneliti akan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisa semiotika dari Roland Barthes untuk meneliti lebih jauh bagaimana film “Enola Holmes” merepresentasikan ekspresi gender. Data yang terkumpul dari sejumlah adegan akan dianalisis menggunakan konsep, artikel, jurnal, serta penelitian lainnya yang berkaitan dengan studi gender. Melalui analisis semiotika yang diterapkan pada tiap adegan terpilih, Peneliti menemukan bahwa tokoh-tokoh dalam film “Enola Holmes” mengekspresikan feminitas, maskulinitas, dan juga androgini terlepas dari identitas gender masing-masing tokoh.
