Abstract
Sebelum melakukan penelitian, peneliti berkesempatan untuk melakukan praktik mengajar di kelas VII mata pelajaran Social Studies dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui masalah yang terjadi dalam kelas. Berdasarkan data dari refleksi peneliti hasilnya hasilnya menunjukan bahwa masalah yang terjadi dalam kelas adalah siswa tidak berpatisipasi secara aktif selama mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, peneliti berusaha untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut dengan menerapkan metode diskusi kelompok. Dalam penerapannya, peneliti menggunakan model Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus selama penelitian berlangsung terhitung mulai tanggal 31 Oktober sampai 14 November 2014, dan subjek dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII pada SMP X di Tangerang. Untuk melakukan pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan instrumen-instrumen penelitian berupa lembar check list mentor, lembar observasi teman sejawat dan lembar refleksi peneliti. Dari data yang terkumpul peneliti melakukan analisis menggunakan cara statistik deskriptif kualiatif sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dari analisis menunjukan bahwa diskusi kelompok dapat meningkatkan kembali keaktifan belajar siswa. Oleh karena itu, disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode Diskusi Kelompok dapat meningkatkan Keaktifan Belajar Siswa kelas VII mata pelajaran Social Studies pada SMP X di Tangerang.

Before beginning this research, the researcher was able to do practice teaching in a seventh grade classroom. Through practice teaching, it was discovered that students were not very active, involved, or participating during the learning process. Therefore, the researcher used a Group Discussion Method to improve the students engagement in the learning process. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) method was used in this research, which was conducted in two cycles from October 31st to November 11 th, 2014. The research subjects were seventh grade students at a junior high school in Tangerang. The researcher used several research instruments to collect data, which were validated by the teacher-mentor and the internship advisor, such as the mentor’s checklist sheet, peer observation sheet, and the researcher’s reflection journal. The researcher analyzed the data collected by using simple descriptive statistics and qualitative methods. Based on the analysis of the data, it was shown that the Group Discussion Method helped to increase the learning engagement of seventh grade students in Social Studies at a junior high school in Tangerang.
