Abstract
Mutu pendidikan yang baik tidak hanya memberikan transfer ilmu, namun juga menanamkan nilai-nilai karakter terhadap peserta didik. Saat ini banyak sistem yang dibuat untuk membentuk karakter siswa, salah satunya yaitu sekolah dengan sistem berasrama atau yang sering disebut boarding school. Sekolah berasrama memiliki fokus utama pada pembentukan karakter peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan sistem boarding school dan perkembangan karakter siswa dalam menjalani kehidupan di asrama maupun pada saat mengikuti pembelajaran di kelas. Adapun karakter yang akan diteliti yaitu, kemandirian, disiplin, toleransi, dan tanggung jawab. Narasumber yang akan diteliti adalah 5 siswa kelas 11 yang tinggal di asrama. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan lembar observasi, lembar angket guru, dan wawancara. Sekolah berasrama tidak hanya mengajarkan kognitif namun juga menanamkan nilai-nilai agama dalam menjalani kehidupan sehari-hari. Berbagai program yang diterapkan asrama untuk membentu karakter siswa antara lain, stufy time, night devotion, dan monthly event. Setiap pelanggaran yang dilakukan oleh siswa akan mendapatkan tindakan pendisiplinan. Penerapan sistem boarding school dalam mendidik karakter siswa dapat dikatakan belum sepenuhnya dapat memenuhi visi dan misi yang telah ditetapkan. Pesrerta didik masih melanggar peraturan yang ada di asrama maupun di sekolah, dan masih belum memiliki kesadaran akan manfaat dari peraturan yang ada untuk menjadikan pribadi yang memiliki karakter.

Good education does not only transfer knowledge, but also instill virtues and moral values of the students. A lot of systems have been designed to build students’ character, one them is boarding school system. The boarding school has a main focus on the character development of the students. The research intends to describe the use of boarding school system and the character development of the students, while in the dormitory or the classroom. The virtues to be observed are self-reliance, discipline, openmindedness, and responsibility. The respondents are five eleventh grade students living in the dormitory. The data is collected from the observation sheets, the teacher questionnaire, and interviews. The boarding school supports the cognitive development and religious values of the students. The programs applied by the dormitory to build students’ character are study time, devotional time at night, and monthly events. Violations done by students met with disciplinary action. The use of boarding school system in developing students’ does character does not fully fulfill the vision and missions of the school. Students still violate rules, either in the dormitory or at school. They do not have the wearness of the purposes and benefits of the rules given to them – to mold and shape them into a man of characters.
