Abstract

Berdasarkan pengamatan yang dilakukan peneliti di kelas VIII pada pelajaran IPS Terpadu, didapati bahwa siswa kesulitan untuk memahami konsep yang diajarkan dalam pembelajaran. Hal ini disebabkan karena siswa di kelas kurang dapat memvisualisasikan konsep abstrak tentang Lingkungan Hidup dan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan. Siswa di kelas juga kekurangan buku pelajaran, sedangkan sekolah menyediakannya tidak terlalu banyak. Berdasarkan permasalahan ini, peneliti merencanakan akan menerapkan metode Example NonExample untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII. Metode penelitian yang akan digunakan dalam melaksanakan penelitian adalah metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Mc. Taggart yang berlangsung selama tiga siklus. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Kupang sejak 14 Oktober 2015 hingga 9 November 2015. Peneliti akan menggunakan instrumen berikut untuk memperoleh hasil penelitian, yakni lembar tes siswa, lembar angket siswa, lembar observasi terbuka mentor, dan lembar jurnal refleksi. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Example Non-Example dapat meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa kelas VIII pada pelajaran IPS Terpadu. Hal ini dilihat dari peningkatan persentase pada setiap indikator pemahaman konsep. Walaupun peningkatan pada salah satu indikator pemahaman konsep tidak mencapai target yang diharapkan. / Based on the observation the researcher did in grade VIII in social integrated subject, there was found that students had a hard time to understand the concept of what was taught in the teaching and learning process. This was because students in the classroom were not able to visualize an abstract concept about Environment and Sustainable Development topic. Students were also lacking of textbooks and the school provided not too many. Based on this problem, researcher planned to implement Example Non-Example method to improve conceptual understanding of grade VIII students. Research methodology used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with Kemmis and Mc. Taggart model that was conducted in three cycles. The research was done in Junior High School in Kupang from 14 October 2015 until 9 November 2015. Researcher used four instruments in this research, which were students‟ test sheets, students‟ questionnaires, mentor‟s open-observation sheet, and journal reflection sheet. Based on this research, it could be concluded that Example Non-Example method could improve conceptual understanding of grade VIII students in social integrated subject. It was evident from the increase of percentage on every indicator of conceptual understanding, even though one of the indicators of conceptual understanding did not meet the target expected.
