Di era masyarakat global, rasisme masih menjadi masalah besar. Ide tersebut pun terwujud melalui berbagai aspek kehidupan, seperti aspek personal, kelembagaan, serta budaya. Sehingga banyak solusi bermunculan untuk berkontribusi untuk menghancuran ide tersebut, salah satunya datang dalam bentuk film. Sebagai salah satu bentuk komunikasi massa, film telah menjadi salah satu media efektif dalam pengaruhi. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan film sebagai alat untuk melawan gagasan rasisme menjadi hal yang umum. Salah satunya adalah film bela diri Ip Man 4: The Finale yang beredar pada tahun 2019. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana tindakan rasis terhadap orang-orang yang termasuk dalam ras Asia direpresentasikan dalam film Ip Man 4: The Finale. Dengan menggunakan metode semiotik Barthes, peneliti telah menemukan berbagai tindakan rasis yang ditampilkan melalui adegan-adegan dalam film tersebut. Tindakan tersebut pun ditampilkan secara eksplisit, atau samar-samar, namun tetap memegang ideologi yang sama. Ideologi yang menekankan kualitas individu ditentukan berdasarkan ras mereka, dimana menentukan keistimewaan, dan kerugian yang akan dimiliki seseorang/kelompok. Terutama dalam penelitian ini, keistimewaan tersebut adalah keistimewaan kulit putih./In the era of a global society, racism is still a major problem. The idea itself manifest through many aspects of living, such as personal, institutional, and also cultural aspects. Thus many solutions emerge to contribute towards the demolishment of the idea, one of which comes in a form of film. As a form of mass communication, film has been one of the most effective media of influence. hence is why the usage of film as a tool to fight the idea of racism has been a common practice. One of which is the 2019 martial art movie Ip Man 4: The Finale. This research examines how racist acts toward people of Asian race were represented in the movie Ip Man 4: The Finale. By using Barthes’s method of semiotic, the researcher has uncovered many racist acts that are represented in many scenes in the movie. These acts are shown explicitly, or vaguely, yet still hold the same ideology. The ideology that emphasizes an individual quality is determined by their race, which determines what privilege, and disadvantage a person/group would have. In this case, white privilege.
