Abstract
Playing online game overly can cause people to addiction. Online game addiction have a impact negative to academic achievement. One of the factors can affect academic achievement is motivation to learn. This research, in accordance, was designed to find whether or not there is a significant correlation between online game addiction and motivation to learn. Population in this research is gamers PC game online in Daan Mogot Tangerang. The criterias for research subject are: man and women between the age range of 15 – 18 years, and playing PC online game. The sampling method is purposive sampling, 100 people are participant in this research. Questionnaire was used as a mean (instrument) to get data, with Likert scale (four optional answers) to measure level of online game addiction and motivation to learn. The variable online game addiction was developed using dimension of online game addiction according to Young (2009), while the variable motivation to learn was developed using dimensions of motivation to learn from Ryan and Deci (2000). In order to test hypothesis, researchers use statistical method with pearson correlation. The result test hypothesis show that there are significant correlation negative between online game addiction and motivation to learn (r=-0,257 , p=0,010). The results research is supported by research performed Jones (2003), Deasyana (2008), Yovanka (2008) and Astuti (2010).
