Bachelor thesis, Universitas Pelita Harapan.
Abstract
Nowadays property business is getting more competitive, developers make lots of efforts on new innovative ideas to attract customers. One of those strategies is the “green concept”. This concept not only provides more vegetations but also starts to approach sustainability and green infrastructure aspects. For example, on 13th of May 2009 BSD City has achieved the Green Property Award. The award is given by the ministry of housing and a magazine called Housing Estate. Besides other 11 residentials, BSD City was awarded as the best Green concept with its watery and open air area systems. However, there is one question behind these award, is BSD City really implementing its concepts or just doing it as a strategy to attract customers and to achieve its sales target. The writer tries to investigate whether the concept itself is implemented by BSD developers and whether the criteria of Green Property Award is really made based on the sustainability development concept. Sustainability or “berkelanjutan” in Indonesian language means ability to fulfill recent needs without reducing the ability of the next generation to fulfill their needs in the future. The writer will analyze the sustainability development concept and studying sustainability theories. Finally, the writer will analyze the implementation of sustainability in the case of BSD City. Had assuming that the award that was given to BSD city could not be a proof that it had implemented the true sustainability concept.
