Abstract
Issue of global warming has been spreading out around world. Some people, groups, institutions, and even countries were debating the issue, and try to overcome the bigger issue. The problem of global warming is not just a mere problem because these things are very related to the Earth and human life. The real evidence of global warming is an increase of the average temperature and the unpredictable climate change. Based on this problem, the architecture should be take a role in tackling global warming issues because the amount of energy used from the buildings, indirectly will increase the amount of carbon dioxide produced which are the root causes of global warming. Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings (according to Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia), so the building not only has aesthetic value, but also has knowledge of science to solve the problems that human’s problem. Energy used could be one of major issue in architecture if the energy used inefficiently and lead to energy waste. This is one of problems that exist in the buildings in Indonesia, because the efficiency level of energy consumption is still far behind from the other countries. However, that differences may occur because of climate differences. But for information, with bioclimatic architecture, it could respond to the nature and climatic conditions so well. And this comprehension of bioclimatic architectural should be applied to buildings in Indonesia so that the architecture in Indonesia can improve and respond better in solving the problem of global warming, especially in the shopping building in Indonesia because this building category has the lowest level of the energy efficiency.
