Abstract
The massive increase of population in Jakarta has made land very limited. This issue affects the very use of land, more so on the usage of land for residential purposes, when residence and shelter is one of the primary needs of human beings. This condition has triggered members of the lower class of society to set up shelter that is often very dirty and unsanitary. In order to address this issue of limited access to housing in Jakarta, a vertical housing structure such as a simple social housing with a bioclimate architecture approach, located in the heart of Jakarta might have positive effects. But, with the increasing amount of population within the simple social housing, so will the use of energy, be it natural or mechanical energy, which might have adverse effects towards the surrounding environment. In current times, the energy crisis is one of the most potent problems faced by mankind. Given this problem, the author has addressed said issue by using the theories of Ken Yeang, Oscar Niemeyer, Donald Wayson and Jimmy Priatman, wherein they posit that the energy crisis can be averted through bioclimatic architecture. By utilizing renewable natural energy and taking advantage of the climate found in areas near the equator, it is possible to minimalise the unwarranted use of energy. This paper is to serve as a blueprint for social housing that are in tune with nature and the surrounding environment and may also suppress the cost that might be exerted to the maintenance of the building and the cost of mechanical energy. The end result is a simple social housing that is energy-efficient and environmentallyfriendly.
