Abstract

One important feature of a smartphone is the Global Positioning System (GPS). This technology makes it possible to track user’s position and movement accurately. With this capability, GPS has been used in location-based advertising, that is a method that marketers use to advertise products or services to user’s device in certain location. UPH Privilege is a program held by BEM UPH with a purpose to provide a special treatment called privileges in a form of discounts and other interesting deals to every UPH Smartcard holders from various vendors. But as of late, this program is not widely known especially to new students because of the lack of publication process. System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) framework is used in the development process of this project. The methodology used in the lifetime of this project is Rapid Application Development (RAD), and the methodology specially used in this the development of this application is prototyping. Parse, which is a cloud back-end service that also provides a database system is used throughout the development of this application. The proposed application is also modelled using UML diagrams in order to explain the application in detail. The result of this project is a mobile application that utilises user’s current location to detect privileges nearby and push its informations in a form of notification onto the user’s mobile device. The application helps in increasing the awareness of the program so it can benefit more UPH Smartcard holders, make it easier to notify users, all while reducing the time needed to publish a new privilege.
