Abstract

The phenomenon of rapidly rising elderly population is a growing issue in the past decade, inducing neglected elderly numbers rising as well. Then, the elder who do not have a place to live will be transferred to assisted living facilities. Nonetheless, there are still a misconcept on society toward leaving the elders on such facilities and the condition of existing facilities in Indonesia. The facilities not enriching the life of the elders, in contrary provoke the feel of neglection and worsening their health condition. Thus, a study about healing environment on assisted living facilities need to be analyzed further – how to create a healing environment corresponding with elder’s physics and psychology. This design adapting the concept of healing environment for assisted living facilities. To achieve that, design mitigation concerning elements of architecture that stimulate senses of the elders (sound, light, wind), social activities would be put into much consideration . Besides that, this design involved with standardization of assisted living facilities – how to make a good design for the elders consisting of program study and its configuration. On this project, design detailing concerning architecture elements, elder’s ergonomic studies, program arrangement or placement, and clustered typology were the most crucial aspects. Except that, the utilization of natural elements also used to achieve the effect and sense of healing environment, such as vegetation, light and water. The making of nodes that act as a place for the elders to be active and participate on social interaction determines fruitfulness of the design as well.
