History has an important role in the creation process dan growth of a city and country. History must be preserved in order not to be forgotten or lost over time. Therefore, it is a necesesery to preserve the history, especially old buildings in Indonesia. One way to preserve the old building is the adaptive reuse program. Adaptive reuse is a program to revive the historical area in order to create a new function in old building without changing its original function. One of the potential historical area to be applied for the adaptive reuse program is Syahbandar Sleko Tower in Semarang. The attention of this issue is that the new fuction must supports the old function. Commercial function is proposed to be a new function that will support the historic asset without removing the old function, which is residential function. The method that will be used in this research is the literature study about adaptive reuse. Precedent study analysis explains about cases containing strategies and approaches in adaptive reuse, the same typology and issues with Syahbandar Sleko Tower. Moreover, surveys directly to the site will be done to deepen the activity of visitors and studies of facilities that is required by visitors or even the surrounding society. Based on the research of the studies, the new function in the form of commercial culinary attractions that will support its old function of the social home. Sleko Syahbandar tower that will be the observatory deck located between these two functions as a communal space. Adaptive reuse strategies used are juxtapositions and weavings.
