Abstract

Reading skills, writing skills and self-esteem are important aspects to be developed in learning-teaching process within Early Childhood Education (ECE) as part of growth and development stimulation and also part of students’ preparation to continue to higher education level, the Primary and until they reach their adult life. This research aims to determine the differences in the application of Multisensory Orton-Gillingham method, Multisensory Fernald method and Direct Instruction method toward reading skills, writing skills and self-esteem on Kindergarten 2 students. This research was held in Kindergarten 2 class in XYZ School, West Jakarta on October – November 2020 with research subject of 21 students that being devided into 3 groups consisting of 7 students. This research is a quantitative research with one group pretest posttest design. The data being used in this research collected through rubrics. The mean and N-Gain scores then calculated using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Kruskal Wallis Test to identify the differences within methods in this research. The results of this research show that there are differences in reading skills, writing skills and self-esteem through the usage of Multisensory Orton-Gillingham method, Multisensory Fernald method, and Direct Instruction method in Kindergarten 2 students in XYZ School West Jakarta. The result obtained from Kruskal Wallis Test shows that there are significant differences in students’ self-esteem with asymp.Sig result of 0,023 which is lower than 0,05. Therefore, the result of this research is there are differences in reading skills, writing skills and self-esteem through the usage of Multisensory Orton-Gillingham method, Multisensory Fernald method, and Direct Instruction method. / Keterampilan membaca, keterampilan menulis dan harga diri merupakan aspek penting untuk dikembangkan dalam proses belajar-mengajar dalam Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD) sebagai bagian dari stimulasi tumbuh kembang dan juga sebagai bagian dari persiapan siswa untuk melanjutkan ke jenjang pendidikan yang lebih tinggi, Sekolah Dasar. dan sampai mereka mencapai kehidupan dewasanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan penerapan metode Multisensory Orton-Gillingham, metode Multisensory Fernald dan metode Direct Instruction terhadap keterampilan membaca, keterampilan menulis, dan harga diri pada siswa TK 2. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas Taman Kanak-kanak 2 Sekolah XYZ Jakarta Barat pada bulan Oktober - November 2020 dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 21 siswa yang dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yang terdiri dari 7 siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan rancangan one group pretest posttest design. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui rubrik. Nilai mean dan skor N-Gain kemudian dihitung menggunakan Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test dan Kruskal Wallis Test untuk mengidentifikasi perbedaan metode dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan keterampilan membaca, keterampilan menulis, dan harga diri melalui penggunaan metode Multisensory Orton-Gillingham, metode Multisensory Fernald, dan metode Direct Instruction pada siswa TK 2 di XYZ School Jakarta Barat. Hasil yang diperoleh dari Kruskal Wallis Test menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan harga diri siswa dengan hasil asymp.Sig sebesar 0,023 lebih rendah dari 0,05. Oleh karena itu, hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan keterampilan membaca, keterampilan menulis dan harga diri melalui penggunaan metode Multisensory Orton-Gillingham, metode Multisensory Fernald, dan metode Direct Instruction.
