Abstract
The main issue to be discussed in this study is about how a vertical circulation such as stair, ramp, and elevator not only serves as an access due to level differences for public users, but also incorporate of other functions that can support a City Gallery. The aim of this research is to give alternatives of design regarding the incorporation of spatial function that can occur in the vertical circulation through the principle of threshold space in the design for Jakarta City Gallery. The method used in this research is conducted by examining the principles of threshold space from the book called Threshold Space by Till Boettger and precedent study analysis, where spatial function, spatial configuration, as well as the utilization of space from the threshold space may occur in the vertical circulation. Design tools that are used will determine the selection of the location of the site at the end of this project. The conclusion of the design based on the design is that the application of threshold space can be applied in vertical circulation for city gallery design, by processing building mass adjusted to building programs based on the concept of “Vertical Threshold Space” and principle of threshold space. The result of the design is the unity of access and circulation in the building, both horizontally and vertically.
