Abstract

Urban society does activities such as living, working, and creating in one environment that relatively close in terms of distance and time limit. This thing push the transformation of a building typology that is multi function, also known as mixed use. Generally, mixed-use building typology combine the function of live, work, and play. Education facility is chosen to be the work aspect in this planning caused by the increase of school participants number, with the mall for the play aspect which is commercial and to support the live aspect for the apartment users by providing their needs. Mixed-use typology which acommodate various function into one area usually have the problem with overlapping, to separate various function with different nature. Transition room which happened from physical overlapping, or activities and user time from various functions can be the place for interactions and to do some activities. Designing transition room in mixed-use area allow the user to affect social interaction that occurs in that space. This is important because social interactions between users can indicate the liveliness of a mixed use. Social interaction can also show cross subvention, so several functions can support each other for another functions In this design, the design of transition room in mixed use planning to become public space, along with the freedom of accesibility thats connected to each other, supported by physical configuration which is overlapped. The kind of activity and user time also become variables in space zoning to group some activities. The design of transition room also considering the visibility aspect which is a start of social interaction, with the control of distance, speed, levelling, orientation, and material.
