Abstract
Growing up in poverty is an aversive situation for a growing adolescent, they are at greater risk to have a negative outcome as opposed to the general population. However, it has been observed in the past that many of these adolescents still can have a positive outcome despite their poor environment due to their resilience. Resilience is influenced by many factors, and one of the main factors is parental authority. Mothers play a primary role in a child’s development all throughout late adolescence, and it’s important to observe how a mother’s authority influences a child’s level of resilience. This research aims to compare resilience according to groups of perceived maternal parental authority styles in late adolescents resilience who are of a low socioeconomic status. This study uses quantitative research methods, using the Parental Authority Questionnaire and CD-RISC-10 as the measuring instruments. Results show there are no significant differences in resilience rates amongst different groups of parental authority styles.
