Abstract

Natural disasters that often occur in Indonesia, ranging from a minor to a greater scale, doesn’t define that the government will be more responsive to the conditions. Emergency aid tents isn’t according to health standard and only offers basic assistance therefore if the victims is in need of further measures, such as surgeries, should be referred to the nearest hospital. Whereas a greater-scale disasters, hospitals around the area tend to be damaged and cannot operate optimally creating an increase on the traumatized victims or deceased. To answer this phenomenon, I had the idea to design an emergency hospital as substitution or complement to the function of the damaged hospitals around the area. Design process of this emergency hospital begin with analyzing the program and ergonomic inside a hospital and producing basic module for the emergency hospital. Then analyzing prefabricated systems that can response to the problems and limitations of the site, also how to construct and storing the modules. As the result, structure design of the modules will use folded & inflatable prefabricated system with the main material using carbon fiber for bracings, aluminum for frames, and ETFE cushion as filling. This system will enable the building to be constructed in quick time, easy, lightweight, and compact when in storage to allows more transportation option. For example, using the scenario of Bantul’s earthquake in 2006, the hospital will be constructed out of 315 modules weighs only 47 ton and can accommodate up to 600 persons at a time.
