OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 is an internationally certified standard which concerns about occupational health and safety. This standard has been chosen by contractors in implementing good management system for occupational health and safety in order to decrease the number of accidents in construction industry. The demand of implementing occupational health and safety in construction engineering is increasing because lots of foreign contractors have been using this standard. Therefore, local contractors should also prepare and increase the awareness of occupational health and safety to be able to meet the competition. The study of OHSAS 18001:1999 concerns about how to implement occupational health and safety management system in construction engineering. This research using the case study on project Mal Taman Palem with PT. WASKITA KARYA as the contractor. This final project gives description about documents needed by the OHSAS 18001:1999 standard for PT WASKITA KARYA, implementation analysis of OHSAS 18001:1999, gap analysis of OHSAS 18001:1999 on project Mal Taman Palem based on the collected data, and also guidance to overcome occupational health and safety problems on building project through the implementation of OHSAS 18001:1999. The implementation of OHSAS 18001:1999 on project Mal Taman Palem still needs few improvements. Considering that PT. WASKITA KARYA hasn’t received any OHSAS 18001:1999 certification, gap analysis result shows value above 50% for every OHSAS 18001:1999 clause. Generally, gap analysis result for companies having had OHSAS 18001:1999 certification shows value of 100% for every OHSAS 18001:1999 clause. It means that the gap analysis result on Mal Taman Palem Project is still in normal range. Implementation of OHSAS 18001:1999 is needed in project construction to overcome occupational health and safety problems. Besides improving the implementation of OHSAS 18001:1999 on project Mal Taman Palem, this final project also provides suggestions to develop this final project by evaluating the implementation of OHSAS 18001:1999 by contractors from different cases and aspects.
