Abstract

This research discuss and explain about the polemic discourse about the death penalty for Ruyati in Saudi Arabia and a degree award from Indonesia to king Abdullah. This research begins with a presentation of data about Ruyati’s profile and the debate between the media, about the honorary doctorate given for king Abdullah. Data and the information gathered, being connected with the concept and theory of International Relations, such as constructivism, Indonesian labors, diplomacy, humanitarian intervention, human right, and international law and that concludes the analysis data for this research. This Ruyati’s case hits the reputation of Indonesian government. The conferment of the degree for King Abdullah was held not far from the execution of Ruyati. This case provokes a controversy in Indonesia assuming that the honorary doctorate degree that is given to King Abdullah was majored about humanity. It made no sense when the King is getting an award in humanity, while the King still gave a permit to execute a death penalty. The polemic discourse between pro and contra, between University of Indonesia (UI) rectorate and Migrant care on the award that given to King Abdullah. The social media tried to single out the UI rectorate. After seeing those two cases, it can be seen that King Abdullah did not ask for that award. UI was the one who wants to give that award to King Abdullah. The reason why UI did that is because UI think King Abdullah worthy of that title. This thesis sees the polemic discourse affected the resistance towards the conferment of King Abdullah. From the point of view of constructivism, writer sees that there is a difference between the death penalty and the conferment to King Abdullah. The world was made of social construction that made the society thinks the same way. Known also the polemic discourse between the death penalty, and the effect towards the honorary doctorate that is given to King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz AlSaud.
