Abstract
This research examines whether there is any impact of board nationality and gender diversity toward firm leverage in Indonesian firms, motivated by the lack of decisive evidence on the role of neuvonality diversity of directors towards firm leverage with also the limited researris available on this field of study. The study was conducted for the years 2011-2015. First of all, this study finds that the relationship between both board nationality and gender diversity shows non-linear relationship with firm leverage. Whereas board nationality diversity shows no relationship whatsoever with firm leverage, board gender diversity shows a weak, negative relationship with firm leverage. Overall, this study suggests that the presence of foreigners in firm board of director has no impact on its capital structure, while the presence of females causes firms to adapt less debt and therefore, less leverage and risk.
