Abstract
Developments in the technology of today provides a variety of options for people to communicate. In addition, the rapidly-developing Internet and smartphone technology allow users to connect directly with another person without tire boundary of space and time. One of the products that are in great demand Internet is social networking. In social networks, each user can connect with their relatives, friends and colleagues. Path is a social network that has many takers. This social network is application-based which can be downloaded to the user s smartphone. This study examines what is expected by the users aged students ( 20-24 years old) from the use of social networking applications Path . The theory used in this study is the Uses and Gratifications Theory. The approach used in this study is a quantitative with survey as the research methods. Data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires to a minimum of 96 respondents who are students in Jakarta and 20-24 years old. The result of this research indicates that the majority of respondents have high expectations on the application’s function of integrative and tension release, but according the responses from the questionnaire, researcher found that respondents felt their need for both of these functions are not satisfied with social networking applications Path. The functions are considered fulfilled the respondent’s expectations are cognitive, affective and personal integrative .
