Abstract
Effeminacy has been a part of Indonesia’s culture within the entertainment industry for decades. In 2010, the Indonesian Broadcasting Committee (KPI) has released a statement stating Effeminate behavior is banned from television, but TV programs did not abide their rules and continued broadcasting effeminate behavior as entertainment. For the second time on 23 February 2016, KPI banned effeminacy on TV, releasing 7 specific regulations on what are considered as effeminate. For this reason, research is needed to determine whether KPI’s regulation in 2016 been abided by, in this case, the TV program D’Academy. The research uses Peirce’s semiotic analysis to analyze the particular episodes chosen at random from the D’Academy show, before and after KPI announced that effeminate behavior is prohibited from being broadcasted. KPI’s regulation will be a guideline to which it will ensure what KPI consider as effeminate behavior, moreover the research will be to differentiate the episodes, have they changed after KPI’s circular letter or have they stayed the same. Based on the research result, there are no drastic changed in the effeminate act as they still speak and gesture femininely and non-masculine.
