Abstract

Dosen adalah bagian yang esensial dalam pendidikan tinggi, terutama dosen muda. Namun, riset atas penyebab, dampak, dan upaya untuk mengatasi masalah kelompok ini sangat jarang. Karenanya, riset kualitatif berupa studi fenomenologi terhadap para dosen muda di Universitas XYZ dilakukan untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan ini. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan pemahaman yang menyeluruh berdasarkan pengalaman nyata para dosen muda yang diteliti. Data didapatkan dengan melakukan wawancara dengan para dosen muda dan dengan mahasiswa/i. Hasil riset menunjukkan kebutuhan akan pengakuan/recognition sebagai tantangan utama yang dihadapi dosen muda. Penyebab masalah ini secara internal adalah karakteristik dari milenial dan kelompok dewasa muda serta pengaruh eksternal seperti kurangnya orientasi, pelatihan, dan program pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) yang ada. Efek yang terjadi adalah ketidakmampuan untuk bergerak dari otonomi menuju keterkaitan (move from autonomy towards interdependence) dan ketidaksanggupan untuk membangun relasi yang dewasa (inability to develop mature relationships). Bukti empiris juga menunjukkan bahwa dosen muda menggunakan pendekatan reaktif-responsif dalam menangani tantangan kebutuhan akan pengakuan ini. / Lecturers are undoubtedly essential parts in higher education, especially young lecturers. However, research on the causes, effects, and efforts that these young lecturers are doing to face their challenge also very limited. Therefore, qualitative research in form of phenomenology study on young lecturers working University XYZ are conducted to answer these problems. The aim of this research is to provide a comprehensive understanding based on experiences of young lecturers studied. Data collected through interviews to young lecturers and students. Research resulted in recognition as the main challenge facing young lecturers. Causes of the challenge are internal characteristics of millennial and emerging adult and lack of external supports through orientation, training, and human resource development program. Effects of the challenge are inability to move from autonomy towards interdependence and inability to develop mature relationships. Empirical evidences also found that young lecturers are using reactive-responsive approach in handling the challenge.
