Abstract

Salah satu alasan mengapa kayu jarang dipakai sebagai bagian utama struktur adalah sifat kayu yang tidak homogen. Variabilitas pada kayu sangatlah tinggi sehingga keyakinan kekuatan kayu tidak dapat ditetapkan dengan akurasi yang baik. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan mengevaluasi perbedaan kelas kuat kayu dengan menggunakan pengujian tarik sejajar serat dengan sampel sebanyak 30 dan pengujian berdasarkan berat jenis kering dengan sampel sebanyak lima buah. Hasil dari pengujian ini kemudian diolah menggunakan program dan dibandingkan dengan tabel yang disediakan pada PKKI. Dari hasil pengujian tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa untuk pengujian uji tarik sejajar serat untuk kayu kecapi mempunyai kelas kuat kayu berdasarkan PKKI adalah kelas IV dan untuk pengujian berdasarkan berat jenis mempunyai kelas kuat berdasarkan PKKI adalah kelas IV. Untuk hasil pengujian terhadap kayu mahoni dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil pengujian uji tarik sejajar serat mempunyai kelas kuat berdasarkan PKKI adalah kelas II dan untuk pengujian berdasarkan berat jenis mempunyai kelas kuat berdasarkan PKKI adalah kelas III. / One of the reason timber is seldom used as main structure element is that it is non homogeny. Variability in timber is relatively high hence confidence in timber strength can’t be assured in high accuracy. This research is done to evaluate the difference in timber strength using tensile strength test using 30 samples and dry relative weight test using five samples. The result is then evaluated by program and compared with a table that is provided by the PKKI. From the tests it is then concluded that using tension parallel to grain, its class is listed as class IV timber by PKKI and for dry relative weight test, its class is listed as class IV timber by PKKI. As for mahogany, it is concluded that by using tension parallel to grain test, its class is listed as class II timber by PKKI and for dry relative weight test, its class is listed as class III timber by PKKI.
