Abstract
Writing a story needs an idea that attracts attention of the readers. However, the teacher is concerned about how low the level of students’ creativity, the learning motivation, and the writing skill in writing a story. It drives the teacher to conduct a corrective action in Class Action Research (CAR), through the application of Four Square Writing method. The purposes of this research are: (1) Describing the application of Four Square Writing method in English learning, to accelerate the level of students’ creativity, learning motivation, and writing skill. (2) Analyzing the development of students’ creativity, learning motivation, and writing skill, in the use of Four Square Writing method. (3) Identifying the constraints being emerged during the application of Four Square Writing method. This research was being conducted in 3 cycles in grade 2 Primary school XYZ, with 25 students as the subjects. The data was collected by observation, anecdotal records, and the graded products, and then being analyzed in descriptivequalitative. The results showed that (1) the corrective actions undertaken in accordance with steps of Four Square Writing method with improvement in the next cycles (2) development of creativity up to 85%, learning motivation up to 82%, and the writing skill up to 87% (3) the constraints were the difficulties to develop ideas of a story to a written form and the lack of preparation of the learning materials. / Menulis cerita membutuhkan ide yang menarik perhatian pembaca. Namun guru mengalami kerisauan tentang rendahnya kreativitas siswa dalam menulis cerita, motivasi belajar, dan keterampilan menulis. Oleh karena itu, guru mengadakan tindakan perbaikan dengan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) melalui penerapan metode Four Square Writing. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) Mendeskripsikan penerapan Four Square Writing dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris agar dapat meningkatkan kreativitas, motivasi belajar, dan keterampilan menulis siswa. (2) Menganalisis perkembangan kreativitas, motivasi belajar, dan keterampilan menulis siswa selama menggunakan metode Four Square Writing. (3) Mengidentifikasi kendala yang dihadapi selama penerapan metode Four Square Writing. PTK ini dilakukan dalam 3 siklus di kelas 2 SD sekolah XYZ, dengan subyek 25 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, catatan lapangan, dan penilaian produk, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif-kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan (1) tindakan perbaikan dilakukan sesuai dengan langkah metode Four Square Writing dengan penyempurnaan pada siklus berikutnya (2) terjadi perkembangan kreativitas sampai 85%, motivasi belajar sampai 82%, dan keterampilan menulis sampai 87% (3) kendala yang dihadapi adalah kesulitan mengembangkan ide cerita ke dalam bentuk tulisan dan persiapan materi pembelajaran yang kurang terinci.
