Abstract

Technology changes are closely related to the development of mass media. Since internet technology emerged in the 1990s, the face of the mass media industry has undergone many changes, followed by media convergence, which has been widely discussed since 2004. This situation makes media business institutions unable to walk alone including TRANS7. Conglomeration is the choice of strategy for survival. The emergence of new media makes mass media not fight only on the same platform. Various new characteristics possessed by new media make television considered obsolent. so that to maintain its position as a business institution needs to be adapted. The morphology of Trans7 is interesting to observe, especially in relation to the convergence pattern carried out in the large conglomeration of Transmedia. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive case study research methods. The critical paradigm is used to see the various inequalities that occur in the television industry. Data analysis is done by looking at adaptations to the content and organizational structure. The results showed that the mediamorfosis carried out by Trans7 was slow and unsustainable. The convergence that happened was not perfect because it had not implemented a multiplatform newsroom, so it seemed that it was working in fragments alone in a large conglomerate. The collection, distribution, utilization and distribution of information has not yet achieved the efficiency of both costs and labor. / Perubahan teknologi sangat terkait dengan perkembangan media massa. sejak teknologi internet muncul pada tahun 1990-an wajah industri media massa mengalami banyak perubahan, disusul terjadinya konvergensi media yang gaungnya ramai dibicarakan sejak tahun 2004 lalu. Situasi ini membuat institusi bisnis media tidak bisa lagi nberjalan sendirian termasuk TRANS7. Konglomerasi menjadi pilihan strategi untuk bertahan hidup. Kemunculan media baru membuat media massa tidak bertarung hanya pada platform yang sama. Berbagai karakteristik baru yang dimiliki media baru membuat televisi dinilai obsolent. sehingga untuk mempertahankan posisinya sebagai institusi bisnis perlu dilakukan adaptasi. Mediamorfosis pada Trans7 menarik untuk diamati, terutama kaitannya dengan pola konvergensi yang dilakukan dalam konglomerasi besar Transmedia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian studi kasus deskriptif. Paradigma kritis digunakan untuk melihat berbagai ketimpangan yang terjadi dalam industri televisi. Analisa data dilakukan dengan cara melihat adaptasi pada konten dan struktur organisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mediamorfosis yang dilakuka Trans7 berjalan lambat dan tidak berkesinambungan. Konvergensi yang terjadi tidak sempurna karena belum menerapkan multiplatform newsroom, sehingga terkesan bekerja terkotak-kotak sendirian dalam sebuah konglomerasi besar. Pengumpulan, penyebaran, pemanfaatan dan pendistribusian informasi belum mencapai efisiensi baik biaya maupun tenaga kerja.
