Abstract

Internet is one of the mass media that becomes an evidence wof the development of technology in communication. One of the internet sites that is popular is YouTube. On YouTube you can make a vlog. Vlog is derived from the abbreviation of video blog. One vlogger that becomes the talk because of her controversial vlog is Awkarin. Vlog Awkarin has been watched and liked by many people but most people consider the vlog gives bad impact for the audience. This study used the approach of quantitative by method of descriptive survey study, with the aim to describe the needs and satisfaction of Awkarin vlog viewers on YouTube by using the theory of uses and gratification. The number of samples in this study were 100 respondents selected based on the purposive sampling. The results of this study showed that the needs of viewers are satisfied after watching Awkarin vlog on YouTube namely surveillance, personal relationship, and diversion. Whereas the needs of the viewers unsatisfied after watching Awkarin vlog on YouTube is personal identity. / Internet merupakan salah satu media massa yang menjadi bukti nyata dengan berkembang nya teknologi dalam komunikasi. Salah satu situs internet yang sedang digemari adalah YouTube. Dalam YouTube seseorang dapat membuat vlog. Vlog berasal dari singkatan dari video blog. Salah satu vlogger yang menjadi pembicaraan karena vlog nya yang kontroversial yaitu Awkarin. Vlog Awkarin ditonton dan disukai oleh banyak orang akan tetapi sebagian orang menganggap vlog tersebut memberikan dampak buruk bagi penontonnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode penelitian survei deskriptif, dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kebutuhan dan kepuasan penonton tayangan vlog Awkarin dalam YouTube dengan menggunakan teori uses and gratification. Jumlah sampel pada penelitian ini adalah 100 responden yang dipilih berdasarkan sampling purposif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kebutuhan penonton terpuaskan setelah menonton tayangan vlog Awkarin dalam YouTube adalah surveillance, personal relationship, dan diversion. Sedangkan kebutuhan penonton yang tidak terpuaskan setelah menonton tayangan vlog Awkarin dalam YouTube adalah personal identity.
