Multi Router Traffic Grapher (MRTG) is a software application that can monitor traffic in a computer network. With MRTG, network administrator will be able to determine bandwidth usage and traffic density in a network. MRTG use SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to manage the communication between server and users on a network. Before the network administrator configures the MRTG application, the administrator should verify that the SNMP has already been configured at the server. The MRTG configuration is accomplished by changing IP address, community string, and creating a folder to put the traffic graphics in. To make the monitoring process easier, daily/weeky/yearly reports are summarized in HTML format. According to the result, the higest traffic occured betwen 8 AM until 6 PM. By knowing this information, the administrator can take an action to manage the bandwidth usage, thus avoiding the bottleneck in the network.
